Musical Recreation, Alcatraz, CA

James Pivaroff, inmate no. 276, plays guitar for another inmate. He was known as "Dip" because he would pickpocket items from guests if given the opportunity. Music was a privilege, but eventually prisoners got a music hour every evening. (Courtesy Chuck Stucker.)
